Value Engineering

Value engineering is not a process of reducing scope or settling for less. It is the ability to find a solution that meets or exceeds the design requirements yet does so at a more favorable cost. At Milestone we strive to provide our clients the most value for their project. We work with the owner and their consultants to find the most cost effective means and methods to attain their goals through the design process.

Project Mangement

We are experienced project managers. We keep the project on schedule, on budget, and at the quality level demanded. At Milestone we utilize Prolog Manager™ to manage the process. This software allows us to manage subcontractors, materials, submittals, changes, and the project log allowing both the owner and Milestone to obtain the status of all those items at a moment’s notice. We also utilize Primavera Sure Trac™ scheduling software to produce a schedule early on in the project.

Design Build

At Milestone we are engineers and contractors. We have the ability to design/build your project and manage the entire process from the conception through to completion. We team with architects and engineers that are best suited to your particular project. Our experience and knowledge allow us to tackle very difficult and unique projects on a design/build basis.

Green Practices

As we all realize that we must build sustainable energy efficient and environmentally friendly buildings, Milestone will work with you to reach these goals. For example, Milestone constructed the LEED Gold Certified relocation, renovation and addition to 88 Lowell Street for the New Hampshire Institute of Art. The building has a super insulated envelope to retain heat and state-of-the-art mechanical systems. Milestone also constructed the South Cove Recreation Facility at Eastman. Read more here.

Estimating

The foundation of a successful project is an accurate and thorough estimate which represents the real cost to construct the project design, while accommodating the existing conditions, whatever they may be. At Milestone we take the time and perform the research necessary to accomplish their goals.
In a construction management or design/build project, the conceptual estimating is vital to the overall success of the project. The early estimates dictate the budget on which the owner must make their decisions. This estimate, although done without the benefit of a complete design, must be thorough and accurate enough to make these decisions. This process requires not only technical expertise, but the experience to “read between the lines” and develop a budget for each and every scope item which is realistic and attainable. At Milestone, we develop estimates and budgets that are realistic and you can count on.

Construction Management

We are experienced construction managers. The most important paragraph in the construction management contract is the first one. It establishes our relationship with the owner that gives us a fiduciary responsibility to act in the owner’s best interest. At Milestone we take this matter very seriously, we have a responsibility to treat your project and your money as if it were our own.
The key to our construction management responsibility is our attention to details. We are very hands on when managing a project and we know the essential details whether it be the schedule, the budget, the subcontractors, or the materials. We know every facet of the project in order to have a global view of the construction and keep the project on track.

Quality Control

Milestone maintains a strict quality control system. The foundation of that system is quality personnel with the education, knowledge, and experience to interpret project requirements and assure that subcontractors and suppliers are constructing the project in accordance with the project specifications. Quality is established through the shop drawing and submittal process and maintained through inspection and independent testing. An agreed upon testing schedule and procedures are approved before every project.

Safety

Milestone maintains a written safety program in accordance with all OSHA and New Hampshire Department of Labor requirements. We hold quarterly loss prevention meetings at which all employees are encouraged, and paid to attend.

All full time employees of Milestone have received the OSHA ten hour training course. Also, all employees at Milestone are CPR and First Aid Certified.

Milestone has an excellent record for safety and is fully committed to emphasizing safety in all aspects of our operations. Safety is a priority from the president down to the employees. ALL employees at Milestone are on the lookout for safety concerns and all employees have been authorized to stop unsafe operations.

We employ Contractors Risk Management, an independent safety consultant, to perform safety inspection of every job site regularly to insure that all Milestone operations, including subcontractors, are OSHA compliant
